THE TEA TARTS OF STERLING HEIGHTS

Chapter No. 8143

The main thrust of the Red Hat Society is summed up in the official Statement of Purpose. It was designed as a vehicle for women to gleefully greet middle age. The values and goals of the National Red Hat Society help guide the activities of The Tea Tart Chapter.

Nine new members met for the first time in November, 2002, at a Victorian Tea held by the Rochester Community House. One year later, The Tea Tarts had approximately one hundred members. Membership has remained at that level since. Our chapter represents women of all ages, diverse in talent and background, and all rich in character. We have currently closed our chapter to new members, as we feel this is the maximum workable number.

The Red Hat Society is often fondly referred to as a "disorganization."  We are proud of our lack of rules and by-laws; however, we have been forced to impart a degree of order to our operations to be able to effectively function.

The Tea Tarts have a Queen Mum, a Round Table, a Web Wench, and an ostentatious membership.  The Round Table is a twelve member group of energetic and clever women who volunteer their time to act as an advisory board and liaison to the general membership.  Our Web Wench (aka Lady Shutterfly) is an amazing blessing.  She created and maintains our website, which provides communication between Tea Tarts and also other Red Hatters.

Most often, our chapter gets together at some type of monthly event, planned and coordinated by Round Table members.  We have attended various local establishments (dinner theaters, river cruises, luncheons, tea houses, etc.) and often host our own events at banquet halls.  The heart of the Tea Tarts is simply getting together and having fun!  May the laughter and bonds of affection last for many years.
